Meet the Pastoral Team

Kelly Bonar

Head of Key Stage 5

Kelly joined St John’s school in 2019, initially appointed as a Geography/Travel & Tourism teacher. Over the past five years she has taken on the role of Career’s Lead, Lead Teacher, Head of 6th form, DDSL and following successful completion of National Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) she was able to join the Senior Leadership Team as an acting Associate Assistant Headteacher. Kelly completed her Master’s degree in Town & Country Planning (MTCP Hons) at the Victoria University of Manchester and then went on to complete a PGCE at the University of Newcastle.

Kelly has extensive experience of Teaching and Leadership having worked as a Head of Faculty in several schools and academies across the North East of England. She was appointed as a Specialist Leader in Education in 2015 and had the opportunity to successfully support several School Leadership Teams with improving their performance. Kelly has also worked as an Educational Consultant offering whole school bespoke CPD and she been a Lead Examiner for AQA (GCSE Geography) for the past 10 years.  

Beyond her professional life, Kelly is a proud mother of three. Her eldest is preparing to read Chemistry at University, whilst her younger son and daughter attend St. John’s school. In her free time, she enjoys travelling and playing netball for Episkopi Netball Team.

Angela Dakin

Head of Key Stage 4

Ange completed her degree in Youth & Community Education and worked as a Youth Worker throughout her career in the Midlands before moving to Cyprus in 2008.  Angela has worked at St John’s for the past 12 years in a variety of different roles including working as an LSA in the PE Department, off-site School Visits Co-ordinator and leading the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.  Angela has taken on the role of Head of KS4 this academic year and she is passionate about supporting students in a pastoral role during their crucial years of their academic journey.   

Her aim as Head KS4 is to support and get to know the students so that they feel able comfortable about accessing support if they need it. Angela and her family are a registered foster family within the military community, and have been for the past 8 years.  She also works part-time at Episkopi Youth Centre and is involved in a range of voluntary events to support the community.

Katie Gardiner

Head of Key Stage 3

Katie started her Career at St John’s as a PE teacher after qualifying with a B.Ed in Physical Education. Upon moving back to the UK with her military family Katie worked in schools in Oxfordshire and progressed to Curriculum leader of an outstanding school in North Berkshire. In 2021 Katie began work at St Johns school Cyprus and worked hard to rebuild the school after covid. In 2022 Katie was awarded the Head of Key Stage 3 and has since worked tirelessly to offer as much opportunities to the students as possible and remove the disadvantage caused by mobility.

Outside of school Katie enjoys life on the Island of Cyprus exploring with her young family. She is also an avid member of the community in sports and music and hopes to continue to promote clubs and societies to their full potential.
