Danny O’Missenden

Acting Head of Key Stage 5

Danny joined St John’s School as a teacher of Mathematics in early 2023. Prior to this, Danny has been a Head of Department, Raising Standards Leader and has been a Senior Education Officer for the MOD. In addition, he has worked in the University Sector as part of a Quality Assurance and Academic Development Team.

Danny completed his undergraduate degree in Mathematics with Secondary Education at Sheffield Hallam University and then went on to gain a Masters in International Humanitarian Law at the University of Essex and a PGCE from the University of Northampton.

Beyond school, Danny is a husband and is a proud dad of two boys. He has a range of hobbies but particularly enjoys crochet, acting, and watching football.

Kim Hayes

Head of Key Stage 4

Kim joined St John’s in 2023, as a teacher of Science and Maths.  She has a degree in Microbiology and a PGCE, both from Leeds University, and she taught in Leeds for 12 years prior to moving to Cyprus.  Kim has extensive experience of supporting students through their Key Stage 4 years, having worked as a core Head of Faculty, and being part of Progress teams; she is passionate about supporting students to achieve their potential, opening pathways for further post-16 options.  Since starting at St John’s, Kim has developed a thorough understanding of the potential issues of being a military child in education and works as part of the team to ensure that the students have a really positive experience at St John’s, both academically and pastorally.

Outside of school, Kim enjoys introducing her two children to the Cyprus life – lots of time spent outdoors and on the beach, exploring the island, finding waterfall walks, hidden beauty spots and weird and wonderful nature.

Katie Gardiner

Head of Key Stage 3

Katie started her Career at St John’s as a PE teacher after qualifying with a B.Ed in Physical Education. Upon moving back to the UK with her military family Katie worked in schools in Oxfordshire and progressed to Curriculum leader of an outstanding school in North Berkshire. In 2021 Katie began work at St Johns school Cyprus and worked hard to rebuild the school after covid. In 2022 Katie was awarded the Head of Key Stage 3 and has since worked tirelessly to offer as much opportunities to the students as possible and remove the disadvantage caused by mobility.

Outside of school Katie enjoys life on the Island of Cyprus exploring with her young family. She is also an avid member of the community in sports and music and hopes to continue to promote clubs and societies to their full potential.
